Donna DeCaprio Elected President of UNITE HERE Local 54 in Historic Uncontested Election
DeCaprio has been a transformative leader within Local 54, most notably guiding the union through its landmark contract victory in 2022, which secured significant wage increases, improved benefits, and stronger job protections for thousands of casino workers in Atlantic City. She previously served as the union’s Financial Secretary-Treasurer for 19 years and has held the presidency since the departure of former President Bob McDevitt. Her strategic vision and deep commitment to worker empowerment have earned her the respect of members and employers alike.
Under her leadership, Local 54 has experienced renewed strength and unity, expanding its membership across New Jersey—from Mercer and Monmouth Counties to Cape May County—into Eastern Pennsylvania, and breaking new ground with successful organizing efforts in Delaware.
“I am honored and humbled to lead this union at such a pivotal moment,” said DeCaprio. “We have proven that when workers stand together, we can win real change. I look forward to building on our successes, growing our movement, and ensuring every hospitality worker has the dignity and respect they deserve. I am deeply grateful for the dedication, hard work, and support of the Local 54 staff, Executive Board, committee, and membership. We have an amazing team.”
Local 54 is the largest hospitality workers union in New Jersey, representing more than 12,000 workers. With DeCaprio at the helm, the union is poised to continue advancing economic justice and raising standards for hospitality workers throughout the region.
